From The Track To NASCAR

Jason Simmons

Senior Director, Competition & Operations — NASCAR International

UYRS Student Since 1998

As a kid in mid-90s Philadelphia, Jason dreamed of racing but saw no pathway into NASCAR — until a local newspaper ad for the Urban Youth Racing School changed everything in 1998. UYRS shaped his childhood and steered his education, putting him in front of industry leaders like Mike Helton and Ed Bennett, and racing legends like Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon. He earned high-school internships with Joe Gibbs Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing, raced the UYRS stock car fleet at storied short tracks like South Boston, Hickory, and Myrtle Beach, and went on to compete in nearly a hundred Legend Car races. Today he is Senior Director of Competition & Operations for NASCAR International, overseeing race procedures, rules, and driver-development pathways across four international series — Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Europe.

I credit Anthony, Michelle, and the Urban Youth Racing School for being my springboard into the motorsports world. I, and many others, are proof that these programs work.
